MUMBAI: Minister of Information and Broadcasting (I&B), Arun Jaitley said that that the radio sector was currently witnessing a revival with FM channels leading the comeback with enhanced quality and competition. He said this during the inauguration of the recently held 21st International Conference and Exhibition on Terrestrial and Satellite Broadcasting, BES Expo 2015.
During the speech, he also complimented the quality of All India Radio’s (AIR) broadcasting which according to him is “the high point of Prasar Bharati as a public broadcaster.”
Jaitley’s main focus was on technology and how the growth of technology across the broadcasting space had drastically altered the pattern and method of information dissemination. He further stressed that innovations across the media landscape influencing content, audience tastes and tools of dissemination were responsible for the boost in technological changes.

He highlighted that news has redefined itself in view of technology and its pattern of consumption. Use of applications for packaging content in the broadcasting sector has affected the way of communication.
Jaitley threw light on social media as a medium of communication. He stated that social media has empowered average citizens by making their voice accessible to different media platforms.
The Minister also mentioned that even in a competitive environment, broadcasting organisations ought to follow realistic financial models in order to avoid irregularities and imperfections.
The event was also attended by Minister of State for I&B Ministry Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Secretary (I&B) Bimal Julka and Prasar Bharati chairman A. Surya Prakash.
