MUMBAI: Bag Films & Radio Dhamaal chairperson Anurradha Prasad is re-elected unopposed as the president of the Association of Radio Operators of India.
All presidents have a two year term. The first president of the AROI, formed in 2007, was Rajeev Mishra after whom, Radio City CEO Apurva Purohit took over as the AROI president.
Speaking with Radio andmusic.com Prasad says, “I am happy and I hope that the faith and confidence of my peers and friends from the entire FM fraternity will always remain.”
AROI secretary general Uday Chawla says, “We all wanted Prasad to continue and her candidature was accepted unopposed by all members. AROI has undertaken five-six activities in the meeting as we want to take radio to the next level with Phase III. It was a matter of survival for Radio in stage one which is over and now it’s a matter of growth.”
The Governing Body Meeting of AROI held on 11 September, was attended/ represented by all of its Governing Body Members and resulted in the formation of new mechanisms for the industry. The Governing Body, includes representation of over 160 of the 240 private FM stations in operation.
‘Self regulation mechanism’ is to be set up that will look after content complaints and redressal, Radio City CEO Apurva Purohit will lead the initiative. AROI plans to concentrate on the ‘Brand Building of Radio’ and the initiative will run under the leadership of My FM CEO Harrish M Bhatia and Fever 104 FM business head- radio and entertainment Harshad Jain.
Big FM CEO Tarun Katial will head the ‘Listenership Measurement Systems’ that is to be reviewed and strengthened while ‘Advertisement Outstanding Control Mechanism’ including outstanding policy and accreditation process, is to set up under the leadership of ENIL ED and CEO Prashant Panday. AROI also demands that a ‘Full time Copyright Board’, as envisaged under Copyright Amendment Act, 2012, be set up at the earliest. Radio Mantra director Rahul Gupta will lead this initiative.
“Mainly we have undertaken six programmes so that Phase III takes off smoothly. We want to ensure that the radio industry’s brand building happens as per both the advertisers and for the consumers. Basically we want to take care of the issues talked about like listenership measurement system, brand building and also self regulation where content is concerned. So with these measures we will try to achieve the maximum for the industry in the two year term,” says Prasad.
