MUMBAI: Armaan Malik made his debut as a child artiste when he sang for films like ‘Taare Zameen Par’ and ‘Chillar Party’. The singer, whose voice has also been featured in a lot of commercials, graduated to another level as a proper playback singer with films like ‘W’ and the Salman Khan starrer ‘Jai Ho’, both of which released in 2014.
Looking back at the year 2014, the 19 year old said, “I am really happy with the way 2014 has turned out. The year started off with Salaman Sir’s film ‘Jai Ho’, wherein I had a couple of songs. One was ‘Tumko to Aana Hi Tha’ in which I was featured and the second was ‘Love you till the end’. I was asked to undergo a very strict routine to have that kind of a body, so I joined the gym and a dance class. Overall, I started inculcating good habits, which eventually are useful to me, and it was about an overall development of mine.”
According to him another highlight of the year was when he released his self-titled debut album under Universal Music India. “Also this year I crooned a Sufi number ‘Aulia’ for the film ‘Ungli’ which was very different from my previous songs. I had to have that kind of stability in my voice and I am very happy that Salim Sulaiman put that kind of trust in me,” he further explained. There were no real low lights, as such, for the singer. “There was a lull phase between the release of my music album and the release of ‘Naina’ (from the film ‘Khoobsurat’) but even at that point in time I had shows and I would often hone my skills which could further help me in my career,” he elaborated.

Malik hails from a musical background as the younger song of composer Daboo Malik. Armaan’s older brother Amaal Mallik is also a composer. “Amaal and I are united as brothers and since I am a singer and he is a composer, we do have our set of creative differences. The one person at home that keeps us grounded is our father. He compliments us for our good work, but he makes sure that things do not get to our heads. He will always remind us that we have a long way to go.” According to him, impressing his father is a very difficult job.
For the upcoming year, the 19 year old wants his music to reach not only to the people of India, but all over the world. “My resolution would be getting better and better each day. Also I would like to thank all my fans who supported me and my music, and also accepted me for my flaws,” he concluded.
