MUMBAI: Playback singer and music composer Ankit Tiwari, who recently gained critical acclaim for his song ‘Sunn Raha Hai’ from ‘Aashiqui 2’, is ready to be featured on the fourth season of MTV Unplugged.
With a stellar line-up of artistes and musicians this season, Tiwari will be one of the celebrated musicians amongst the likes of Salim-Sulaiman, Papon, Amit Trivedi, Mikey McCleary, Vishal Dadlani and others.
Coming from a musical background, Tiwari says, “Playing live has always been something I am really fond of. MTV Unplugged is a prestigious stage for any musician and when I was building my career, it was like a landmark platform for upcoming artistes.”

The composer will be playing different renditions of his original compositions like ‘Galliyan’, ‘Sunn Raha Hai’, ‘Kuch Toh Hua Hai’ and ‘Sheeshe Ke Samundar’. In addition, he revealed that there will be a surprise cover of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s track which will be dedicated to the famed Pakistani musician.
Talking about playing live to an audience, which is quite different from recording in the studio, Tiwari says, “Being a part of MTV Unplugged is exciting because when you are playing for an audience, the entire vibe and the feel changes into a stronger energy. Plus, I get to display my creativity with how I want my music to sound.”
“This helps me narrate songs differently. In the studio, we have restraints since songs need to be moulded the way the movie demands. When I am performing live, it gives you enough freedom to interpret your music and create unique renditions of them,” he added.
The artiste also disclosed plans to put out his music, which will be separate from what he creates for movies. Although, he believes that there is no scope for albums presently, he stated, “I want to release singles, the songs that I have composed. We will start building it up through social networking platforms and then see where it takes us and how the fans respond.”
The composer cum singer also said that he has composed music for the upcoming political thriller ‘PK’, which is an Aamir Khan starrer. He is working on other projects like ‘Roy’ (Ranbir Kapoor starrer), ‘Mr. X’ (Emraan Hashmi starrer) and ‘Baby’ (Akshay Kumar starrer).
He expressed that the music he has composed for the upcoming films are extremely different from his previous works. Tiwari added, “These are all big names and everyone wants to work with them. I used to fantasise about working on such big projects and I have tried to experiment with the genres of music in these films. For example, there is an influence of Arabic melodies in ‘Mr. X’ and I hope the audience takes it well.”
