MUMBAI: In a music video for ‘Animals’ that was released earlier this week, Adam Levine of Maroon 5 is seen stalking a girl and singing, “Baby, I’m preying on you tonight, Hunt you down eat you alive.. Just like animals.”
In the video, Levine, who is a butcher is attracted to a woman (Victoria’s Secret supermodel Behati Prinsloo), stalks and fantasises about her while being soaked in blood. The video, which is nothing short of being deemed as an explicit one, shocked all Maroon 5 fans and has been receiving a lot of heat from fans and critics alike.
‘Animals’ is the American band’s single from the album ‘V’ and has been criticised by many organisations for propagating stalking and trivialising sex and gore. A publication has gone as far as to say that the video tries to make ‘terrorising’ women look ‘sexy’.

The latest backlash that the video has received is from RAINN, i.e, Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network, which is an anti-sexual assault organisation.
According to a report in Radio.com, the organisation said in a statement, “Maroon 5’s video for ‘Animals’ is a dangerous depiction of a stalker’s fantasy — and no one should ever confuse the criminal act of stalking with romance. The trivialisation of these serious crimes, like stalking, should have no place in the entertainment industry.”
According to TMZ, The National Sexual Violence Resource Center also condemned the video, saying that the video depicts the way Levine treats his own wife – like a piece of meat.Many fans took to social media and attacked the video by saying that it was “horrifying”, “disgusting”, and “wrong”, and that stalking is “far from being romantic”.
Adam Levine has not responded to the criticisms and complaints yet but, in an interview with Access Hollywood before the release, he had mentioned that his “crazy idea” for the video was “really dark and weird and cool”.
