MUMBAI: Proving to be one of the most popular British artistes, late singer Amy Winehouse has achieved a sale of 1.7mn album copies in the year since her death.
According to the Official Charts Company, 1.2 million copies of Winehouse’s three albums along with 500,000 of her singles have been sold in Britain in the past year.
Her two studio albums ‘Frank’ (2003) and ‘Back To Black’ (2006) witnessed a significant increase in demand following her death, with her debut album ‘Frank’ ranking at number three in the charts in August last year.

‘Back to Black’ rocketed back to the top of the Official Albums Chart a week after she passed away on 31 July, having previously held the number one spot for three non-consecutive weeks in early 2007. Due to massive sales in the month after her death, the album became one of the largest selling soundtracks of the 21st century.
While ‘Valerie’ is the biggest selling single of her career by a clear stretch, the most in-demand track since her death has been the title track of her second album ‘Back to Black’.
The album remains Winehouse’s biggest seller by garnering around 3.5 million UK sales and achieving the 77 position in the Official Albums Chart last week.
Official Charts Company MD Martin Talbot said, “Many of us will remember where we were when we heard the terrible news about Amy Winehouse a year ago. And the fact that music fans have since then, bought her music in such large numbers demonstrates just how highly she was regarded by her British fans.”
