MUMBAI: American R&B singer-songwriter Alicia Keys will debut a track ‘Crazy’ from her upcoming album during her performance in the star-studded 2012 Video Music Awards at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on 6 September.
Performing for the fifth time, Keys admits that she is more excited and confident than ever to share her new music with not only her fans, but the entire VMA audience. This will be the second time that the R&B singer will debut her new material on VMA, earlier in 2007, Keys had performed her hit single ‘No One’ at the awards.
Speaking about her performance, Keys said, “Debuting a new song at the VMAs is definitely special. I debuted ‘No One’ at the VMAs — it was the first time anyone in the world heard ‘No One’. It’s the perfect setting. It’s the right energy. It’s the right vibe. People are so excited about the night of music and hearing different styles that it just goes over really well. I can’t wait! I’m in my space and I feel more confident than ever to really just have a crazy, fun time. It’s so exciting to bring people into my world and where I’ve been and what I’ve been working on. And there’s no better place in the whole wide world than the VMAs to do that, so it’s gonna be crazy!”
Alicia Key made her VMA debut back in 2001 where she won her first Moonman for Best New Artist in a Video. In 2004, Keys along with Lenny Kravitz and Stevie Wonder performed a medley of ‘If I Ain’t Got You’ and ‘Higher Ground.’ In 2009, keys and Jay Z performed a rousing rendition of, ‘Empire State of Mind’, while in 2010 Keys bagged 12 nominations at VMA and won her fourth Moonman for Best Cinematography.
