MUMBAI: All India Radio (AIR) announced dates of 2014 annual AIR Music Competition to discover and encourage new talents among young artistes. The last day for sending in applications to participate in the competition is 13 June 2014, and applications can be submitted at the nearest AIR stations.
The competition is open for talents aged between 16 to 24 years of age, as of 30 June 2014. Applicants who are performing music artistes of AIR are not eligible to participate. Yuva Vani and LRS artistes, member of choral group and participants in other non-music programmes of AIR are qualified.
The four categories in the competition include- Vocal music (classical, light music and folk music-Hindustani and Karnatic music) (light classical-only Hindustani); instrumental music (classical only); Vrindgaan (chorus) and Music composer.
Candidates have to pay an entry fee of Rs 300 (for each category) to participate in the competition. It has to be sent to the station director of the respective station by money order. The application form along with the money order should have documentary proof of date of birth.
The competition will be held in two stages – first competition will be held at every station of AIR and final competition will be held at Delhi and Chennai for Hindustani and Karnatic music respectively. The preliminary competition will be held in August 2014. Winners of this level will record for the final competition.
The proposal for the appointment of the judges for the preliminary competitions will be forwarded to the regional additional director general by 23 June 2014.
The winner of first prize and special prize will receive a cash award of Rs 5000 each and second winner will be awarded Rs 3000. The result for the finale will be out on 26 December 2014.
