NEW DELHI: All India Radio in Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh) has been nominated for the International Children’s Day of Broadcasting Award in the South Asia region this year.
The ICDB prize for radio has been named for their entry â€?Joy-Live’. MeenuKhare, the producer and participating children is being felicitated at a special function organized to celebrate Children’s Day.

The awards are given by UNICEF for outstanding commitment to the ICDB by television and radio broadcasters. The final winner of the 2011 Global ICDB Awards will be announced on 5 December 2011 by UNICEF headquarters in New York. All India Radio Gorakhpur’s entry will now go on to compete for global honours.
This year nominees have come from Andorra, Bangladesh, Benin, China, India, Iran, Mexico, Nepal, South Africa, Togo and Uganda representing the work produced in 2011 for the ICDB.
UNICEF chief- Internet, Broadcast and Image Section Stephen Cassidy said, We are pleased that so many broadcasters embraced the International Children’s Day of Broadcasting this year and are especially proud of the diversity and creativity that these nominated broadcasters demonstrated in fulfilling UNICEF’s mission to involve young people in the media-making process….
The International Children’s Day of Broadcasting is a day set aside each year to celebrate children’s broadcasting and encourages young people to get involved in television and radio broadcasting. The 2011 ICDB theme was Girls Are… Boys Are…,… and asked children to talk about children’s rights and their importance. Regional judging took place between June and August and entries were evaluated by teams of broadcasters, radio and television experts and communications specialists. The judges looked at content, execution and year-round youth participation.
UNICEF Uttar Pradesh communication specialist Atul Kumar said, It is a day to commemorate our commitment to children’s voice. We must provide these children an opportunity to express, and listen to them. We are happy that All India Radio has been showing great leadership in providing the platform for children’s participation….
For the last two years, AIR Lucknow had won the regional award for radio, and this year Gorakhpur station has brought laurels and joy to the children of Uttar Pradesh.
