MUMBAI: A well timed release is what the song ‘Pair Anaadi’ from the film ‘Yeh Hai Bakrapur’ is. Composed by the band Agnee, the song is a last minute addition to the previous two-song soundtrack of the film.
The song was recorded and shot in 10 days, and composed in just a day. The quirky lyrics by Abbas Tyrewala were unexpected, even to the director of the film Janki Vishwanathan, who could not believe that Agnee managed to bring on board a lyricist of that stature for a small film. The track also features Rahul Ram and Amit Kilam of Indian Ocean, Raghu Ram from the popular television reality show Roadies and vocalist with Agnee, K Mohan.
Mohan spoke to Radioandmusic.com about how a concept grew into ‘Pair Anaadi’. “We made the tune in a day and Abbas immediately came up with the main line, ‘Pair Anadi, Dhoonde Kulhadi’, after I shared the audio with him. I had initially thought of a ridiculous line called ‘Jai India Ki’ or something. Abbas was very irritated with it, since everyone in the world has done something along those lines. As Abbas put in all the lyrics, it became more like an Agnee song,” he said.

We asked Mohan how he managed to rope in all these people for the song, Mohan replied, “Once the lyrics were done, we thought they were right up Raghu’s alley. So I called Raghu first and he came home, heard the song and agreed to do it. Since it is a song for a political satire, I was not sure if Raghu would want to sing it considering he is busy campaigning for Aam Admi Party, but he loved the idea and was up for it. Rahul Ram and Amit were in Mumbai recording the Indian Ocean album and they came home to do the first mix. When it worked, we told them they had to come in one more day and record it.” He added, “We are very lucky that we have friends like this who just come in and agree to work with us, just because it is Agnee. That is what shows in the song too; that we are making something and having fun together.”
Rahul Ram seemed to have really enjoyed recording the song. “I thought that it was a funny and nice ‘young-bhara’ gaana. We had a lot of fun at the recording. Amit insisted on wearing sunglasses for the recording in that small, dimly lit studio for some strange reason. So I went for it too!” laughed Rahul Ram.
Raghu Ram, known for his profanity and angry demeanour on MTV Roadies, has only sung twice before. Interestingly, this is the first song he has sung that is not related to Roadies. “I was pleasantly surprised and taken aback that musicians of this calibre have asked me to do a song like this. I am not a musician, just an amateur, but they never made me feel like one. It was amazing working with such legends,” said Raghu.
