MUMBAI: Not even in her wildest dreams, did ‘Offo’ singer Aditi Singh Sharma, think of becoming a playback singer. Being a popular face in the rock circuit during her initial days, Sharma’s association with concerts and live performances brought her in touch with Ehsaan Noorani from the famous Shankar Ehsaan Loy trio.
Music was always an important part of her family. Sharma started training in Hindustani classical music at a very early age, after which her family shifted to Moscow. There she was a part of her school choir, and also learnt the piano, but gave it up midway. “I really did not like the way they taught us. One mistake and the teacher would hit us, so I discontinued. I was not exposed to Indian music in Russia, and western classical music did not appeal to me much. This was when I started listening to Michael Jackson, Back Street Boys, Madonna and various other bands and pop artistes,” she explained.
After coming to Delhi during her college years, Sharma joined various rock bands including, Junkyard Groove, emerging as a popular face in the indie music scene. During one of her performances, Noorani asked her to send him a song sung by her in Hindi.

Sharma made her debut with, ‘Yahi Hai Meri Zindigi’ from ‘Dev D’. Since then, she has worked with numerous composers like Pritam, Sohail Sen, Salim Suleman, Raghu Dixit and others. Along with being part of the biggest film album in 2014- ‘2 States’, Sharma has also crooned one of 2015’s chartbusters- ‘Sooraj Dooba Hai’ from ‘Roy’.
The ‘Dhoom Machale Dhoom’ singer describes herself as a stage artist, more than a recording artist considering she has been performing on stage since she was four years old. The songstress also plans to come up with an independent single, and wants to try a hand at composing. “I feel I can do complete justice to composing. I can never try my hands at lyric writing, as I am terrible at it. Even nursery rhymes would sound better than my lyrics,” she laughed. Sharma also revealed that would love to collaborate with everyone in Bollywood for the single.
