MUMBAI: Pop diva Adele and iconic artist PJ Harvey were inducted as Members of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire on the occasion of the Queen of England’s annual birthday.
Queen Elizabeth II awarded MBEs to Adele and PJ Harvey on her annual Birthday Honors in recognition for their services to music, BBC said.
Adele 25, won a Best Original Song Oscar for the theme for the latest 007 film ‘Skyfall’, along with a Grammy, a Golden Globe and a Brit.
Alternative and indie rock singer-songwriter- guitarist PJ Harvey 43 has been nominated for top music awards including six Grammy nominations since she began her career in 1988.
She is the only artist to have won UK’s prestigious Mercury Prize twice- Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea’ (2000) and ‘Let England Shake’ (2011).
This year’s 1,180 honours also included ‘Mr. Bean’ actor Rowan Atkinson and sculptor Anish Kapoor.
In related news, Adele has bought herself a new home in west London’s plush Kensington.
The $10 million home has four bedrooms with Adele installing bullet-proof windows to protect her entrepreneur partner Simon Konecki and baby son Angelo.
