MUMBAI: After years of refraining from music streaming services, Australian rockers AC/DC will finally make their catalogue available on streaming services like Apple Music, Spotify and Rdio. The ‘Highway to Hell’ hitmakers have held out on the digital world for quite a while, and only made their music available for download on iTunes in 2013.
Despite Apple opening its music store in 2003, AC/DC only joined the music service a few years ago, the reason being that the band was concerned breaking down an album into separate tracks would not have the same effect on listeners. The band’s last album ‘Rock or Bust’ was its first to be sold digitally. Since releasing on iTunes in 2014, ‘Rock or Bust’ is said to have achieved sales in excess of 500,000.
By making their music available on music streaming services, AC/DC now has joined a number of other rock acts that previously chose to stay away from the streaming business. Metal band- Metallica joined streaming services three years ago, in 2012, with Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin following suit in 2013.

AC/DC’s music will be made available globally on music streaming services on the same day that Apple Music is unveiled. However, there are still a few artists who have still not made their music available on Spotify, including Taylor Swift, Bob Segar, Prince, Garth Brooks, Thom Yorke of Radiohead, and the Beatles, who only joined iTunes in 2010.
Additionally, Dr. Dre’s album, ‘The Chronic’, will also be made available on a subscription streaming service for the first since its release in 1992, Billboard has reported.
