MUMBAI: Abhishek Nailwal who forayed into music industry with advertising jingles one being with music director Ram Sampath for Airtel’s ‘Har Ek Friend Zaroori Hota Hai’ which became a slogan among the youth, is extremely passionate about music. His recent endeavour is the romantic track ‘Kaise Bataaoon’ (Cantabile) for upcoming bollywood film ‘3G’, but the singer does not aim to limit himself to playback singing unlike the new breed.
Speaking with Radioandmusic.com, Nailwal says, “Genetically, I got music from my mother who persuaded me towards singing. I started by performing with college bands and doing jingles. It was Sameeruddin who introduced to me to jingles. I still remember, one day I was singing a song outside a theatre along with my college friends when a drunken man gave me Sameeruddin’s number and told me to contact him. After that I got a platform to sing inadvertising jingles.”
Multi-talented Nailwal who is from an army background, has travelled around the country during his young days and is finally settled in Mumbai giving wings to his musical dreams.
Pritam gave him his first break in Sachin Bajaj’s Naksha in 2006. “Appreciating my voice in different jingles Pritam called me from Mumbai and asked me to sing.” His other projects include Sorry Bhai, Sarkar Raj, Rann, Contract, Hum Tum Shabana, I Me aur Main and now the recent flick ‘3G’. “I have performed with bands, worked for jingles and have done vocal arrangements for MTV Unplugged with Ranjit Barot and AR Rahman. It is great to do music. I always look forward for collaborations as it fun.”
Besides Pritam, he has worked with music composers like Sachin-Jigar, Ranjit Barot, Gaurav Dayal, Bapi-Tutul and Amar Mohile amongst others. “I used to play for Neelesh Misra’s band who is known for his lyrics in film industry, and he suggested me to Sachin-Jigar and that is how I rendered for Cappuccino from the film I Me Aur Main.”
Nailwal says. “Cantabile is all about soothing, angelic, light and melodic music that is used in ‘3G’ It was a good experience working with Mithoon and films are a huge platform for singers.” The film has five tracks composed by Mithoon except the theme song that is by Amar Mohile. Produced by Eros International and Next Gen Films, Shantanu Ray and Sheershak Anand’s ‘3G’ is slated to release on 15 March.
Presently, Nailwal is concentrating on writing songs and is looking forward to collaborations.
