MUMBAI: On the second anniversary of the attacks, Red FM has just one question for Mumbaikers: Do you feel safe and secure? Red FM has thrown open its airwaves to the listeners, and the station says it’s received thousands of phone calls and messages from listeners right from fishermen living on the Mumbai coastline to journalists who covered the Qasab trial.
The station is airing important messages throughout the day and will also pose some tough questions to government authorities and top officials from Force One, NSG and the coastal services, asking them what measures have been taken so far to prevent another terrorist attack.
The station acknowledges that the government has initiated reforms and spent crores of rupees in trying to make Mumbai safer, and even lists out the following initiatives:
After 26/11, Maharashtra Government has spent around Rs 120 crore in an attempt to modernize its police force with an array of weapons and bullet-proof vehicles.
Mumbai Police has got 5 new speed boats which are part of the 29 speed boats purchased by the state government at a budget of Rs. 150 crore.
An NSG base has been formed in Mumbai.
Central Railways has spent Rs. 37 crore on a security plan for its passengers.
Sagar Prahari Bal was also created consisting of Indian Navy, the Coast Guard and the Marine Police for coastal security.
But does the Mumbaiker feel safer as a result of all these measures, and can the government do more to ensure our safety? That — and more -– is what Red FM is asking Mumbaikars today.
