MUMBAI: What a glittering ceremony it was at the Karambir Indoor Stadium at Guhawati on the 23rd of December, 2010 which marked the first ever music video of the legendary singer, Dr. Bhupen Hazarika. This is the first ever music video that binds the north east together and features the stalwarts of the north east from Dr Bhupen Hazarika from Assam, Mami Varte from Mizoram, Lou Majaw from Meghalaya and Sourabhee Debbarma from Tripura.
The four singers accompanied by director Anirudha Roy Chowdhury put together a fabulous show as they all sang at the event even as the honorable minister from Assam, Pradyut Bordoloi released the video open. The video received a standing ovation from the housefull crowd at the stadium. A beautiful song and dance ballet was put up by Sukalyan and Entourage depicting the unity between the seven sisters and was well received too. The beautiful Assamese actress Nisheeta Goswami compered the event extremely well.
“Our North- East, Our Star will bring the North East closer to India. The song and the reason behind the music video got me to participate in this,” says the legendary music composer, filmmaker Dadasaheb Phalke award winner Dr Bhupen Hazarika about the music video for which he has sung and featured.
Bollywood’s hit music composer Shantanu Moitra and lyricist Swanand Kirkire have written the songs and the lyrics of the music video that is being touted as the anthem for the north east now. Moitra who is also a national award winning composer of films like Lage Raho Munnabhai and 3 Idiots got Kirkire who has won two national awards for Hazaaron Khwahishen Aisi and 3 Idiots to do the lyrics of the video.
Cement Manufacturing Company Limited has initiated this music video Our North East Our Star… directed by Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury who has made some award winning films.
“The original version Sapne Sach Kare was written by Kirkire and it was translated in various languages. It is about the north east. Recording with Bhupenda was a great experience. I had memories of trying to attend his shows when I was in college and it was a dream come true,” says Moitra.
Sanjay Agarwal, Director Cement Manufacturing Company Limited and the moving spirit behind the album says, “We are looking to cement the bond between the states in the North East and what better than through music from the legends. The entire music video is in tune with the idea of the musical unification of the north east.”
Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury is very enthusiastic about the video from Star Cement and says that the people from around the country should visit the north east first to realize how beautiful the place is.
“There are very beautiful locations here in the north east which people in other parts of India and the world should see. People here are very nice and kind. Most of us are not even aware of how the north-east looks like and how the people out here are. This music album hopefully should make them bond with the north east a lot more,” opines the outspoken filmmaker.
The music video is being touted as an anthem or sorts for the north east. Film theatres across the north east are also expected to air the music album before screening movies. The song is also going to be promoted across all television, radio and digital platforms.
