Saavn Music launches guest editor program

MUMBAI: Saavn announced the launch of its guest editor program at www.saavn.com and on Saavn Music for iPhone and android. Premiering under the auspices of actor-musician Neil Nitin Mukesh, the guest editor program puts celebrities in charge of content on the top music service for one full day. The launch date was especially significant for Mukesh, who is partnered with Saavn on his birthday.

The guest editor program is the latest innovation by the popular Indian music service, which offers free and legal, on-demand music in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Gujarati, and English. Celebrities will be able to choose Saavn’s Song of the Day from any one of Saavn’s over 350,000 tracks, and to program a playlist shared with Saavn’s 10 million-plus listeners on the Saavn homepage.

Of the partnership, Mukesh said, “I was excited to dedicate this birthday to music, and to share my favorites with millions of Saavn listeners. It’s been great fun revisiting my love of music with them. I love being able to hear my own music, and the best of my father and grandfather, all in one place.”

Saavn editor-in-chief Sneha Mehta said, “With his legendary legacy and talents in both music and acting, Neil Nitin Mukesh was the perfect celebrity to inaugurate our Guest Editor program on Saavn. We were thrilled to celebrate Neil’s birthday with a tribute to the music and films that have had an impact on his life, and excited to share Neil’s favorites with millions of Saavn listeners across the globe. Saavn is pushing the boundaries of digital music, and this is one more way we’re bringing the best of Bollywood to our users.”

In addition to its popular site and apps on Web, Android, iOS, and Chrome, Saavn is currently developing a multi-platform mobile browser application, a subscription music product, and several innovative new music listening features.
