MUMBAI: After much anticipation, ReDigi(TM) the world’s first online marketplace for used (pre-owned) digital music opened its full beta site late last night in the United States. ReDigi is rocking the music industry and offering a viable alternative to iTunes and the traditional digital retailer by establishing a resale value for digital music; giving consumers the freedom to legally buy and sell used digital music direct from one fan to another; and granting artists and labels a significant portion of the proceeds from the sale (and resale) of their music.

“Before ReDigi, a technology that could transfer a digital music file from one user to another without copying it, simply did not exist,” said CTO Larry Rudolph. “ReDigi is the first and only technology that can do this.”
The process begins with ReDigi’s forensic Verification Engine, which ensures that each song uploaded for sale in the marketplace was previously legally acquired by the seller him/herself. Songs ripped from CD’s, Vinyl or some other physical media are rejected and returned to the seller’s library.
If resale eligibility is approved, the ReDigi Music Organizer removes the song from seller’s computer and all synced devices and lists the song for sale on the marketplace. When a buyer is identified, ReDigi transfers the track and license to the new owner and awards the seller credits that can be used to make new purchases through ReDigi.
