Red FM RJ Mantra felicitated with the ‘Hero to Animals Award’ by PETA

MUMBAI: People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India felicitated RJ Mantra, host of Mumbai Local (Mon-Sat 5-9pm) on 93.5 Red FM, with the â€?Hero to Animals’ award for his extensive efforts to rescue a parrot. RJ Mantra received a framed certificate and a letter of appreciation from PETA India honoring him for the compassion shown towards an animal and rescuing an animal in need.

On locating a baby parrot entangled in the wires outside RED FM studio, the Red FM team under RJ Mantra’s guidance contacted the Mumbai Fire Brigade. Travelling immediately to the Red FM office the firemen worked tirelessly for three hours until the parrot was freed, unharmed. Meanwhile, RJ Mantra provided LIVE updates of the firefighters’ rescue efforts on the air.

Moved by this act of kindness, RED FM listeners were anxious about the well-being of the parrot and heaved a sigh of relief on hearing about the successful rescue operation!

Says RJ Mantra, I am thankful to PETA for recognizing our efforts and felicitating us for the same. This award also recognizes Mumbai’s Fire Brigade who worked tirelessly for three hours to rescue the terrified parrot. It gives me immense satisfaction to be a part of the medium that can reach out to so many people and make a difference. Humans are the most powerful animals on the planet and with great power comes great responsibility….

“Not only did RJ Mantra and his team do everything they could to save this dear parrot’s life, they also made sure that Red FM’s listeners learned the importance of always stopping to help animals in distress”, says PETA India Chief Functionary Poorva Joshipura. “Their compassionate actions have already inspired one listener to help an animal in need, and we’re sure that numerous other people will follow their example.”
