Radio City grooves to the beats of Navratri

MUMBAI: Radio City, the leading FM radio network in the country, celebrates Navratri in all its glory this year. In Mumbai, Radio City brings the ‘Dandiya Premier League’ along with giving its listeners a chance to enjoy the ‘Morphosis Navratri’, one of the biggest Navratri celebrations in the city. The popular ‘Garba Premier League’ rocks the show in Gujarat while down South; Radio City brings the most innovative ‘Namma City Golu’ to the city of Chennai, this Navratri.

Navratri denotes the ‘circle of ecstacy’ that throbs the nation non-stop for nine nights with devotees swaying in a frenzy of dance and passion. Radio City makes sure this frenzy is maximized. In Mumbai, all our listeners need to do is answer some simple questions and win passes to the ‘Morphosis Navratri’ organized at the ‘Sen Roofs Ground’ on Goregaon-Mulund Link Road. Renowned music director, Viju Shah ensures that the tempo stays high through out the event.

Keeping the festive spirit high, Radio City has come up with ‘Dandiya Premier League’ in Mumbai and the ‘Garba Premier League’ in Ahmedabad, Baroda and Surat. In these, an intense ‘dandiya’ / ‘Garba’ competition amongst housing societies culminates in a grand finale on the day of Dushera, in the presence of a live orchestra.  One couple on each of the nine days gets crowned ‘the best dressed couple’ and one the ‘best dancing couple’.

Fostering the spirit of Navratri in Chennai, Radio City organizes the grand ‘Golu’ festival – ‘Namma City Golu’. ‘Golu’ is the sacred doll made during Navratri, as a mark of celebration. Radio City canters are going around collecting as many ‘Golus’ as possible in Chennai. The ‘golus’ collected make up a massive ‘golu’ set-up, with the most unusual dolls, in Chennai’s Spencer’s Plaza mall. The dolls collected from this activity will be distributed amongst under-priviledged children.

In Bangalore, a ‘studio ratha’ or portable studio, travels across the city from 15-26 October, giving every Bangalorean the chance to experience the magic, that is radio. Radio City RJs conduct their shows right from the ‘travelling’ studio. Connecting the large city together ‘studio ratha’ makes this Navratri special for Bangaloreans.
