MUMBAI: NINE on 91.9FM, the first private FM station of Sikkim & Swar Sikkim, a non-governmental organization organized the first ever talent hunt dance reality show in Sikkim– Nachyo Babari .
Auditions for the talent hunt started from 17th August 2009 in four major districts of Sikkim – Mangan, Gyalsing , Namchi & Gangtok . The first round of audition short listed 170 participating groups. Six rounds of auditions were arranged to select the best 25 participating groups. However only five participating groups could make it to the grand finale which was held on 21st February 2010 at Palzor Stadium , Gangtok. Chief Minister Dr. Pawan Chamling graced the occasion with his presence as the Chief Guest. The popular Salsa Guru Mr. KT Namgyal, Singer Madhusudhan Lama and Singer Thupden Bhutia were also the Guests of Honour for the programme.. Along with the august spectators consisting of the Speaker , Cabinet Ministers , MLA’s , Chairperson and other Bureaucrats, thousands of spectators thronged to witness the grand finale. The event was telecasted live by a local television channel and was covered live by NINE on 91.9FM, the official radio partner for the event.
North Sikkim Academy (NSA) Mangan was declared the winner of Nachyo Babari Contest while Fire and Ice, Soreng, Kyongsa Sewa Samaj, Geyzing, Bhaley Dhunga, 32 No., Hamro Pariwar, Dechiling, secured second, third, fourth and fifth positions respectively. NSA, MANGAN , the winners of Nachyo Babari bagged cash prizes of Rs. 1.5lakh, while the first , second , third and fourth runners-up received cash prizes of Rs. 50, 000, Rs.30, 000, Rs. 10, 000 & Rs. 10,000 respectively. Reliance Insurance Company also offered insurance of Rs.60 lakhs to the Winner. Besides the assured prizes, the Chief Minister also presented cash prize of Rs.1lakh to the winners, Rs.50, 000 for 1st runner-up, Rs.30, 000 to 2nd runner up and Rs.25, 000 to each of fourth and fifth position holders. The winners will also get an opportunity to act in the locally produced movies of Sikkim.
The event was judged by an esteemed panel which included – Mr. Kamal Rai (Bollywood and Kollywood Dancer/choreographer), Ms. Santa Nepali popularly known as Chunki (Bollywood & Kollywood Dancer & Choreographer), Uttam Pradhan (Renowned Kollywood Actor) and Mr. K.T Namgyal, Salsa exponent of India. Mr. KT Namgyal and the three judges were felicitated by the Chief Guest.
As part of the association, NINE on 91.9FM, Sikkim was instrumental in promoting the entire show on-air and on ground. NINE FM arranged for live links from the venue. NINE FM RJs also organized various interactive games on-ground to keep the crowd rocking and reeling.
The Chief Minister further assured to provide scholarship to those who wish to enroll themselves in any dance institute of the country. He also assured to give financial support of Rs.20 lakhs to those keen on making a movie on Sikkim.
