MUMBAI: Nine on 91.9 FM, Siliguri once again expressed its sense of belonging to this part of India – West Bengal – by being the official radio partners of the Hilsa Festival hosted by The Symphony Garden Retreat, the new luxury boutique hotel and restaurant set amidst a lush tea garden in association with Ananda Bazaar Patrika.
Come monsoon and every Bengali household is filled with a rich aroma of Hilsa or Ilish fish – bhaapa Ilish, Ilish paaturi, you have an array of spread to choose from! The Ilish â€?maach’ is quintessentially Bengali. Hilsa, considered the most sought after fish in West Bengal, continues to be popular despite steep rise in its prices.
Participants were invited to send in their recipes out of which 12 contestants were selected for the preliminary rounds. They had to exhibit their culinary skills to the judges on 9th August 2009.
Regular updates of the Hilsha festival were aired live on Nine FM. The grand finale was hosted by one of the Nine RJs who interacted with the participants. The winner of the Hilsha contest was announced on 15 th August 2009 at The Symphony Garden Retreat.
Fans of the Hilsa fish, which is a major delicacy in West Bengal; thronged the ongoing Hilsa fish festival at The Symphony Garden Retreat. The taste of the fish is so incredible that the people of this region of India-West Bengal refuse to miss any opportunity to savour it even though the prices are sky-rocketing.
