MUMBAI: Music Today, recently launched Hari Rang, the new album of the legendry flute maestro, Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia. The album unfolds the various colours of the legends musical treasure and features the live concert of two popular, mesmerising evening ragas, which showcase his brilliance with the instrument. The album was released on the occasion of Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia’s 70th birth anniversary and celebrates his priceless contribution towards Indian classical music. The CD is available at all leading music outlets for Rs 299/- only.

The album consists of two tracks. The first track is ‘Raga Yaman’, which begins with a magical Alap (slow paced detailing of the raga’s structure) and then followed by a Gat in madhyalaya teentaal (medium paced composition in 16 beats) and a Gat in drut teentaal as a concluding part of the raga. As far as structural aspects are concerned – Raga Yaman belongs to the Kalyan thaat & is consist of all seven notes where the 4th note Ma (madhyam) is used tivra (sharp). Gandhar (Ga) is the prime note of this raga. The ascending notes are Sa-Re-Ga-Ma(sharp)-Pa-Dha-Ni-Sa and the descending notes are Sa-Ni-Dha-Pa-Ma(sharp)-Ga-Re-Sa. The beauty of the raga lies in the use of tivra madhyam with other shuddha swaras, which gives a very romantic feel to the raga.
The second track features ‘Raga Hansadhwani’, which belongs to the Kafi thaat. Raga Hansadhwani uses five notes (omitting the fourth note Ma & the sixth note Dha). Shadaj (Sa) is the prime note of this raga. The ascending notes are Sa-Re-Ga-Pa-Ni-Sa and the descending notes are Sa-Ni-Pa-Ga-Re-Sa. The straight & swift use of the swaras in this raga evokes a very joyful feeling. In this track, Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia brings out the joy that the raga promises, by playing a beautiful Gat in drut teentaal (a composition in16 beats).
