MUMBAI: Kenge Kenge symbolizes all that is great about African traditional music; a sound that’s a masterful guardian of an ancient but living tradition. This group breathes new life into Kenya’s Luo musical roots, transforming it into a modern, guitar-based hybrid of past meets present. Dense textures of rhythm and chant are overlaid with an unusual assortment of self-made traditional instruments, but the singing is in fact the central event, and it is strong and generous, full of character and contrast. Luo entertainers traditionally deployed their instruments to touch their spirits, and Kenge Kenge has done this around the world, from WOMAD to the Lincoln Center; and from Norway to Sri Lanka. Kenge Kenge will make your feet, voice, and soul dance in a celebration to the world of Luo music.

The event will be held from July 8-10 at the Sarawak Cultural Village, which is located 35km outside Kuching and set against the magnificent backdrop of the legendary Mount Santubong.
