MUMBAI: The Delhi International Arts Festival is a multi-arts cultural festival spread over seventy venues in Delhi between the 3rd and the 14th of October. This unique Festival includes all forms of art including dance, music, theatre, puppetry, film, visual and photography performed by artistes from all over the world.
The 2009 edition of DIAF featured over 40,000 artists making it the biggest ever arts festival in India. Jazz Junction, Goa’s flag bearer at the festival, enthralled a packed to capacity open air venue at the DLF mall. The band opened with an original composition called ‘Funky Fiddle’ and then swung into their own interpretations of popular jazz standards that were laced with Latin flavours from Goa. Another original tune called ‘Beautiful Goa’ composed by Indian jazz legend Braz Gonsalves was rendered soulfully by Braz’s wife Yvonne who has been singing with Jazz Junction at festivals all over the country.
The highlight in the band’s performance at DIAF 2009 was an instrumental called ‘Simple Samba’ composed by bassplayer Colin D’Cruz featuring the amazing virtuosity of pianist Xavier Peres and drummer Lester Godinho.
