MUMBAI: Dubai Media City and Dubai Studio City, members of TECOM Investments Media Cluster, the International Confederation of Music Publishers (ICMP) and Fairwood Music (Arabia), today announced they will jointly host a music rights workshop in Dubai to address the local and international challenges faced by the industry.
Titled ‘ICMP Music Industry Growth and Development Workshop’, the first-of-its- kind event in the region will be held on 9 November at Media One Hotel Dubai. It will be attended by key decision-makers from the UAE Government as well as global leaders in the music publishing industry including Universal Music Publishing Group, EMI Music Publishing, Sony/ATV Music Publishing, Peermusic and Warner/ Chappell.
Officials representing various rights societies and industry umbrella organisations such as the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC) and Bureau International des Soci?©t?©s G?©rant les Droits d’Enregistrement et de Reproduction M?©canique (BIEM) are also expected to attend the event in Dubai.
Ger Hatton, Secretary General, ICMP, said: “This important workshop aims to take initial steps towards establishing the UAE as a regional hub for protecting music rights and as the first major gathering for the music publishing industry in the Middle East, affords us the opportunity to identify ways to promote and protect local and international artists.”
ICMP is the umbrella trade organisation representing the interests of the music publishing community worldwide. Its workshop in Dubai will aim to identify a system that will benefit and nurture young songwriters and artists, in addition to offering copyright protection for local music.

Our support to industry development initiatives such as hosting the ICMP workshop is aimed at fostering a world-class regulatory infrastructure for the music/entertainment and creative industries to protect intellectual property and ensure compliance with the UAE copyright laws.
“At Dubai Studio City and Dubai Media City, our objective is to bring together the UAE government authorities and global music publishing industry stakeholders to discuss key issues faced by the music industry.”
Industry focus is increasingly turning towards emerging markets while music publishers aim to have a representation in the region for copyright protection.
ICMP is represented in the Middle East through its music publisher and associate-member in the UAE – Fairwood Music (Arabia).
