MUMBAI: Converse Inc, through its Indian licensee, Planet Sports, the Sports Division of Pantaloon Retail India Ltd, announces the launch of The Converse Original Band, an integrated music initiative geared at discovering and celebrating emerging music talent across India.
Born of the brand’s commitment to music, The Converse Original Band is geared at showcasing and promoting original indie music across the Indian market. The music initiative will tour the Bengaluru, Kolkata and Pune cities, finally culminating in Mumbai on 16 December, 2012. What is deemed to be India’s largest brand-led music activation, The Converse Original Band features an integrated campaign weaving online advertising, social media, events and in-store activations.
The Mumbai grand finale will be judged by Parikrama, one of India’s most original rock and roll bands and a leading source of inspiration to aspiring artists across the globe. The winning band will take home the title of The Converse Original Band along with a cash prize of Rs 50,000. The subsequent winners of The Converse Original Music, The Converse Original Lyrics and The Converse Original Guitarist categories will each be awarded with Rs 20,000 and all finalists will be featured on a CD compilation that will be distributed through Converse partner retail stores nationwide from February to April 2013.

To participate submit entries on the official website along with the band profile, band picture and one original composition. Mumbai Grand Finale will be held at Bandra Fort, Amphitheatre.
Entries invited for Bengaluru from 16 October to 8 November, 2012, Kolkata from 22 October to 15 November, 2012, Pune from 22 October to 25 November, 2012 and Mumbai from 22 October 22 to 27 November, 2012.
The winners will be announced on 10 November at Bengaluru, 17 November at Kolkata, 28 November at Pune and 30 November at Mumbai. The grand finale will be held on 16 December in Mumbai.
