Columbia Records Artists & Recordings Garner 29 Grammy Nominations in 25 Categories

MUMBAI: Artists and recordings from the Columbia Records Group garnered 29 nominations in some 25 Grammy categories for recordings released during the Grammy Eligibility Year October 1, 2007 through September 30, 2008. Nominations for the 51st Annual Grammy Awards were announced in Los Angeles on Tuesday, December 3 by the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences. The 51st Annual GRAMMY Awards will be held on “GRAMMY Sunday,” Feb. 8, 2009, at Staples Center in Los Angeles and once again will be broadcast live in high-definition TV and 5.1 surround sound on CBS from 8-11:30 p.m. (ET/PT).

Columbia Records artists nominated for Grammys this year include John Mayer (5 nominations), first-time nominee Adele (4 nominations including Best New Artist as well as Record of the Year and Song of the Year for “Chasing Pavements”), Raphael Saadiq (3 nominations), Mary Mary (3 nominations), Bruce Springsteen (2 nominations), John Legend (2 nominations), AC/DC, David Gilmour, Beyonce, Tye Tribbett & GA, Kathy Griffin, soundtracks for “August Rush” and “Walk Hard,” Miles Davis, MGMT and producer Rick Rubin.

Columbia Records and its artists made strong showings in a wide variety of categories including Record of the Year and Song of the Year, Best New Artist, Best Female Vocal Performance and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance as well as nominations for Best Rock, R&B, Rap, Gospel, Comedy, Motion Picture Soundtracks, Album Notes, Producer of the Year, Remix and Long Form Music Video.
