MUMBAI: New Year week of 2010 witnessed a sudden bus strike called by the Bus Service Operators in Kerala, demanding increase in bus fares. Even while government initiated talks, the bus operators continued with the strike. It was chaos for the general public, including women and students who had to struggle with the limited number of government buses. Roads were lined with people literally begging for lifts from two-wheelers and cars.
Hundreds of calls started pouring in to Club FM from the public, voicing their concern and absolute dismay Club FM quickly realized that we needed to help the stranded commuters immediately; and started talking to schools to make use of school buses during their idle-hours. Perhaps in a first of its kind initiative, Club FM in association with Reliance communications, Bharathiya Vidhya Bhavan and with support of District Collector and local administration quickly rolled out free bus services for the public in Cochin.
For Club FM, it was one of the most gratifying activities among the many events and CSR initiatives done in the past two years. The strike was called-off on Jan 8th, 2010.
