MUMBAI: Fans of Asha Bhosle and listeners of ‘Purani Jeans’ were in for a special treat as the Queen of melodies exclusively graced Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM¸ India’s and her favorite radio station on the eve of her birthday.
Asha Tai, who has mesmerized listeners over the years with musical gems like Dum Maaro Dum, Piya tu Ab to aaja, Mera Kuch Samaan completed seven glorious decades in the music industry and turned a year older on 8th September. On a special request by RJ Anmol, the evergreen songstress visited the Mirchi studio, indulged in a lively tete-a-tete with the RJ and interacted with her fans on Mumbai’s most popular retro show, Purani Jeans with Anmol.
Mirchi fans got a glimpse of some hitherto unheard, personal aspects of Ashaji and her associations and friendship with legends of yester-years like Shamshad Beghum, Madan Mohan and R.D. Burman. From groovy cabaret to classical songs and romantic ditties, Asha Tai has kept everyone enthralled with her silken voice and perennial charm. Asha Tai’s association with the great R.D Burman is legendary and the singer shared unheard of quirks and anecdotes on the late virtuoso. RJ Anmol was heard having a gala time as he chuckled when Ashaji said Madan Mohan had a penchant for cooking meat with whiskey. Many such delightful nuggets of the golden era adorned the Mirchi airwaves as the listeners basked in the warm remembrance of the nostalgic times.

Ashaji chatted about her favourite dishes and her desire to expand her chain of restaurants. Requests of listeners to hear their cherished Asha songs poured in on the Mirchi airwaves and the ever affable Ashaji obliged them by crooning the hit tunes, live on air!
