A musical tribute to a legend

MUMBAI: A musical event aptly titled â€?Devghar’ dedicated to musical genius Shri Yashwant Dev was organized today by Jeevan Gaani at Sathye College ground, Vile Parle. The event was conceptualized by Prasad Mhadkar.

Paying musical tribute to Shri Yashwant Dev were his students, which include eminent singers like Shreedhar Phadke, Ravindra Sathe, Uttara Kelkar, Ranjana Joglekar, Suvarna Mategaonkar, Sagar Phadke, Mandar Apte, to name a few. Inspired by his music, these singers decided to dedicate an evening to the maestro to celebrate his 86th birthday, which incidentally, was on November 1.

The highlight of the evening was the presence of legendary singer, Padma Vibhushan Asha Bhosle; who was the chief guest for the event. This is a very special moment of my life to honour Shri Yashwant Dev, who is a great music director. I have learnt so much from him,… she stated.

More than 3000 music lovers and admirers were present for this show, which was open to all. They were mesmerised as singers grooved them to some all-time favourite songs like Bhatukalichya khela madhali raja anik rani… and Ya janmavar ya jaganyavar shatada prem karave… to mention few. The atmosphere was that of excitement and celebration. The crowd witnessed once in a lifetime moment to witness Asha Bhosle and Yashwant Dev together on stage together. The music director was presented with Rs 86,000 as a token of love and appreciation for his 86th birthday.

The man behind bringing this show together was Prasad Mhadkar. It feels great to honour a man of such talent. I am very proud that we have such music directors in our country who have kept the oldest tradition of our culture – music alive…. he exclaimed.
