MUMBAI: Festivals are all about making memories. A few we manage to capture while the others stay with us in our hearts. Well, the time to make new memories has arrived with Ganpati Bappa entering our homes.

Shaan: This Ganesh festival I am going to visit a couple of pandals like Chinchpokli Cha Chintamani as well as perform on my new Ganpati song, Maza Bappa Shree. I am not a religious person but I hold a special place for Ganpati, having lived in Mumbai all my life. Lord Ganesha is one God that I have worshipped the most and I know a lot more aartis of Ganesha than any other God.
I feel he is most accessible, friendlier and the most affable God and speaking to Lord Ganesha feels like talking to an elder brother.
Kailash Kher: We do not get Ganpati Bappa at our home but we do celebrate the festival with great joy. The festival brings all communities as one and the celebration goes on for almost a month.
Shankar Mahadevan: Ganesh Chaturthi is a very special occasion as it is one of the biggest festivals which we celebrate. The house gets into a state of euphoria with the celebrations as we also have friends, relatives and the entire music fraternity coming over for darshan. The entire day we have bhajans and music happening at my place.
I also have a special bond with Ganpati Bappa. I always feel like he is there for me as a protective shield.
Arjun Kanungo: As a kid, I called him “Gampi” as I couldn’t say “Ganpati”. There are times when I still refer to him as Gampi as that reminds me of my modak – sweet that’s specially prepared for Lord Ganesh — memories.
Akasa Singh: Ganesh Chathurthi has hands down been one of my most favourite festivals ever. The society I grew up in has a huge celebration of 11 days where there’s everything from fancy dress competition to talent rounds to magic shows and antaksharis.
As a kid, I would put in my everything into those competitions and I guess that’s where my early dose of stardom. I remember this one time, I did a Kathak performance that my mom choreographed on Satyam Shivam Sundaram the whole audience stood up, and I was obviously on cloud nine! I’d always been in awe of my mom and old pictures of her as a Kathak performer. I felt like her and it was amazing.
