MUMBAI: The month of October has been extremely kind to music aficionados across the country. In Mumbai, the ‘live music’ continues to keep on giving. Radioandmusic.com handpicks five of these events that one surely cannot and possibly should not miss.

The F16s @ antisocial, 13 October

On 13 October, arguably the finest rock band to have emerged from the city of Chennai will perform at the city’s next blueFROG (in terms of music activities) – antiSocial, Khar. The five-piece act will return to Mumbai over a month after the last performance at Hard Rock Café, Worli.

Reasons to attend: The band will be performing the beauties from its latest release – Triggerpunkte. Read more about the album here. Possibly, one of the finest sounds created for a long time, Triggerpunkte possesses compositions created and crafted in a way that translates as magnificently in the studio as it does during live shows. Currently on road with the album tour, the band would make a pit-stop in Mumbai before heading to three consecutive performances in the south.

Reasons not to attend: On the same day, FuzzCulture will arrive in Mumbai with its latest two-song EP called ‘Twins’. Similarly to The F16s, this Delhi-based duo (comprising Arsh Sharma and Srijan Mahajan) currently find themselves on the road promoting their latest effort. There lies no doubt in the fact that FuzzCulture belong to the exclusive list of bands who have managed to create an identity purely based on the refreshing sound they have carried. Electro-rock, subtle melodies and the latest review of the duo’s performance in Hong Kong provide reasonable excuses to miss The F16s, and attend the ‘Twins’ EP tour instead.

Red Bull Tour Bus @ Hindu Gymkhana, 16 October

An annual ritual that has gradually become every music lover’s ‘go-to’ event, Red Bull Tour Bus’s line-up keeps evolving into a bit more mainstream (or popular or commercial or crowd-puller) and a bit more grander at the same time. The initiative had to change its venue for this edition, but the eventual purpose remains the same.

Reasons to attend: Nucleya, Benny Dayal, Karsh Kale, Aswekeepsearching, Blackstratblues

Reasons not to attend: If you prefer metal music over other genres, on the same day, five metal acts from the scene would come together for a tribute to Vincent Pereira, the late bassist of the band ‘Prakalp’. Vincent, also known as ‘The Beast’, passed away at the age of 22, almost a decade ago. Says the description of the event, “This concert is our celebration of Vince’s life. This is our ode to a force of nature. This is our TRIBUTE TO THE BEAST.” Also, this – once again – breaks certain myth about the genre of metal. Metalheads are a bunch of emotional people. Some cry, some growl. So if metal is your thing, attending ‘Tribute to the Beast’ makes an ideal excuse to miss ‘Red Bull Tour Bus’

Raghu Dixit @ Metro Mall Kalyan, 14 October

A day later, and a few kilometers to the north, Raghu Dixit will be preparing for his debut performance at a shopping mall in the suburb of Mumbai – Kalyan. Dixit’s growth as a musician and popularity across the nation has received immense mileage, thanks to his live shows that often go viral, for obvious reasons. The songwriter will perform with his band – The Raghu Dixit Project – on 14 October in Metro Mall, situated in Kalyan.

Reasons to attend: Raghu Dixit, known for the energy and contagiously feel-good vibe he so easily manages to exhale; the Bengaluru-based musician would embrace this part of the country for the very first time. Also, it’s a free event.

Reasons not to attend: Kalyan

Shaggy @ Phoenix Market City Kurla, 21 October

The following week tones down in terms of activities, but surely makes up with the lack of gigs through one performance. Shaggy, yes the Grammy award winning Mr. Boombastic will perform a dedicated gig at Phoenix Market City in Kurla.

Reasons to attend: IT’S SHAGGY.

Reasons not to attend: Unless you are boarding a flight to the United States to watch Roger Waters live, we cannot think of another reason.
