MUMBAI: Their voices have been a part of the music industry even before they cut their milk teeth. From cute, lisping notes, these have moved on to becoming confident playback singers. Here are some artists who have been regaling us with their songs since their childhood and have evolved as singers/musicians of note in Bollywood.
Armaan Malik
Do you know that before venturing into Bollywood, the young singing sensation Armaan Malik was a finalist on Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L’il Champs? Armaan advanced to eighth place with public votes in that season. Winner of Filmfare, Stardust, GiMA awards, 21-year old Armaan has been learning Hindustani Classical music for about ten years from Rita Kaul and Qadir Ghulam Mustafa Khan.

Palak Muchhal
Palak Muchhal, the National Child Award winner has been a part of the music industry even before she became a singing sensation in Bollywood. Muchhal started singing when she was aged four and she has been trained in Indian classical music and can sing in 17 different languages. Also, she became a member of Kalyanji-Anandji’s Little Stars, a group of young singers, when she was just four years old. At eight, she released an album ‘Child for Children’ to raise funds for children suffering from heart diseases.
Ananya Sritam Nanda
Hailing from Bhubaneshwar, Orissa, Ananya Sritam Nanda was the winner of Season 2 of Indian Idol Junior, in 2015. She has lent her voice recently in a song named ‘Padhoge Likhoge’ for the film ‘M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story’, composed by Amaal Mallik.
Mohini Dey and Eshani Dey
Both sisters fell in love with music at a tender age. Inheriting their interest in music from their parents, both sisters started learning music from the age of three. The elder of the two, 17-year old Mohini was featured in the latest season of MTV Coke Studio with AR Rahman. It is pretty much the same with her sister Eshani who is three years her junior and has been training in Carnatic music.
Upagna Pandya:
Do you remember the song ‘Mai’ and ‘O Pappad Wale Panga Na Le’ song from the movie ‘Makdee’? The voice behind those songs is Upagna Pandya. She has been in this industry silently, and she has also worked with Vishal Bhardwaj for a song named ‘Aasmani Chhatri’ from the album Blue Umbrella (2006).
