MUMBAI: Music is life of Indian cinema but some music compositions bring life to Indian cinema. One such musical composition was made by Grammy award winner AR Rahman for Mani Ratnam’s ‘Dil Se…’
Every song of the album managed to reach million of hearts. And on occasion of the film completing 17 years today, we bring you some facts about ‘Dil Se’ music.
· The film won a lot of awards for its music in the year 1999. Most of these awards were from Filmfare. A.R. Rahman won the Best Music Director; Gulzar got the Best Lyricist award for ‘Chaiyya Chaiyya’; and Sukhwinder Singh was honoured with the Best Playback Singer award for this very song. Farah Khan bagged the Best Choreographer award for an energetic performance on top of a train by Malaika Arora and Shahrukh Khan. At Star Screen, Sukhwinder Singh received the Star Screen Best Male Playback Award for ‘Chaiyya Chaiyya’.

· American YouTube celebrities Kurt Hugo-Schneider and Sam Tsui uploaded a mash-up video of ‘Chhaiya Chhaiya’ and ‘Don’t stop ’til you get enough’ by Michael Jackson on their channel with singer Vidya in May 2015. It has garnered more than 13 lakh views on Youtube.
· Berklee Indian Ensemble (at Berklee College of Music) gave a tribute to Rahman by a cover of ‘Jiya Jale’, to gratify maestro’s contribution to the music industry.
