MUMBAI: Playback singer Alka Yagnik born on 20 March 1966 turned a year older today. The National Film Award winner is one of the most versatile singers in the music industry. Not only is she popular for singing Bollywood songs but Alka has also sung in Gujarati, Odia, Assamese, Manipuri, Nepali, Rajasthani, Bengali, Bhojpuri, Punjabi, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam.
‘Chand Chupa Badal Mein’ singer got her first break as a singer at the age of six at All India Radio (AIR). She has most number of Filmfare Awards won (7) by a single female playback singer. Her first Bollywood break was in the 1979 film ‘Payal Ki Jhankaar’ followed by ‘Laawaris’ (1981). She sung one fo the most famous songs ‘Mere Angne Mein’ for the Amitabh Bachchan starrer film.
