Frank Pawar, lead guitarist of metal band Devoid, introduces his band, the members and the kind of music they play, to Avani Bheda. Devoid is one of the two new and relatively unknown metal bands that will perform live at RockFort 2010 in Bandra on Sunday, the 26th of December in heavy- and death-metal frenzy. Excerpts.
Tell us your plans for RockFort?
We think this gig is going to be of epic proportions and we will surely contribute to it by adding our own dose of Death/Thrash metal and play songs from our album.
Give us a brief history of your band.
Formed in 2005 by Arun, Shubham and Keshav who used to jam in their colony, in a children’s nursery after they wind up. I joined them and we started gigging and promoting our all original set-list.
Who writes lyrics for Devoid? What are the themes? Any message you guys are sending out?
Lyrics are written by Arun and rightfully so cause he is a typical south Indian with good writing skills. Themes are towards being vocal about issues which we feel are the need of the hour. We try to incorporate such messages through our song. Different songs carry different messages.
How do you compose your music and how often do you rehearse?
Initial riffs are often chalked out by Arun and then followed by Keshav and Shubham. I try to fill up the low frequencies where they suits best and at jams the final structure is laid down. We rehearse at least once a week.
How did you come up with band’s name?
Devoid was fortified as a band name as we thought that it signifies us well taking into consideration the myriad of emptiness we all face in our lives.
If you could create a fantasy band – what would be the line-up and why?
I personally would love to see the following musicians chunk out some Metal – Jim Morrison on vocals, Gary Moore on lead guitars, Pat O Brian on rhythm guitars, Alex Webster on bass and Dave Lombardo on drums. I am sure the rest of the band members have their own interesting preferences.
Tell us about your album God’s Lie?
A God’s Lie is an anthology of our efforts towards churning out some pure Death/Thrash songs. It was recorded at Arun’s very own â€?MotorG’ studios. The album has songs which address what we feel are superfluous issues plaguing our country and the world. Certain songs like New World Order’ and â€?Hate cult’ talk about uprising. We have also included a song purely dedicated to, and for the love of Beer It is released worldwide on Demonstealer Records who we feel is the best record label in the country.
