MUMBAI: The growing consumption pattern among Indian consumers, growing association with the international music community and most importantly, the growing Indian music industry, has attracted the attention of the UK music industry.
To partake in the growth, the UK music industry has announced a new trade mission to India, the first since 2006. It will take place in Mumbai from 1 to 8 November. This mission will see representatives of the independent recorded music sectors laying the foundations for collaboration, expansion and exploration in the Indian market.
The mission is organised by UK Trade & Investment (UKTI), in partnership with the Association of Independent Music (AIM) and BPI (British Phonographic Industry). It will involve special education programs, networking, B2B meetings, conferences, showcases, a visit to a festival and other music related activities.

Some activities planned with the Deputy High Commission in Mumbai include the music festival ‘The NH7 Weekender’ and music and event company ‘Submerge Entertainment’. At the B2B conference ‘MixRadio Music Connects’, UKTI will also organise a session during the day for delegates.
AIM CEO/Chairman Alison Wenham said, “In conjunction with UK Trade & Investment we have organised three previous missions to India – this will be the fourth, and we are confident that with the global nature of the music industry plenty of good contacts will be made and business will undoubtedly follow.”
BPI independent member services and international director Chris Tams said, “Building on the close cultural ties that have long-existed with our Commonwealth partner, we are excited to give independent music companies the opportunity to learn a great deal more about the hugely exciting and burgeoning Indian market and the potential it offers British music companies to develop their business in the sub-continent.
Tams further added, “Digital channels are leading the way in India, with their revenues accounting for as much as 60 per cent of total recorded music sales, so we believe now is an ideal time to visit and give our delegates the opportunity to exploit their music in a dynamic new market.”
