ZURICH: Representing India on an international platform was Red FM’s morning jock Malishka who rocked the International Radio Festival with her special show in ‘Listen to how the world sounds’.
The jock was the winner of the ‘Sound of India@IRF2012′ competition organised by Radioandmusic.com in association with the IRF. The competition had more than 100 entries from radio jocks and radio show producers from more than 70 private and public FM radio stations all over India.
Along with show producer Naheed Jumani, Malishka presented the sound of India on 15 September mixed with bollywood music and Indian culture. The two hour morning show comprised of popular bollywood tracks like ‘Chammak Challo’, ‘Jai Ho’, ‘Rang de Basanti’, ‘Tujhe Dekha’, ‘Chikni Chameli’, ‘Munni Badnaam’ and more. The enticing energy of the jock mixed with peppy numbers from Hindi cinema had the audience on the dance floor within minutes.

Speaking to Radioandmusic.com on her experience, Malishka said, “We experienced the culture of the place and incorporated that into the show working hard on the placement of the songs in relation to the content. It was a lot of fun going around the city and speaking to people about India. We presented a lot of bollywood music and gave an overview of India. I was not at all nervous during the show though it took some time to get used to the console as it was very different from what we use. But we had a lot of fun, I wore a sari and danced a lot and I guess it was the most ‘in your face’ show of the fest. I thank Radioandmusic.com for selecting us to represent the country on such a big platform.”
The show featured popular bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan’s sound byte on the fest and Zurich. Malishka also made him hum the popular song ‘Tujhe Dekha’ which made Zurich famous back home in India.
Lending a personal touch, Malishka also interacted with the local citizens, teaching them a bit about Indian culture through a fun interaction. It also included messages from people back home on Hindi words the citizens of Zurich needed to learn.
The partnership with Radioandmusic.com ensured a fresh perspective on radio in India amongst other leading professionals from across the globe. The sessions along with the panel discussions highlighted the future of Indian radio and its growth in comparison to other international radio markets.
