NEW DELHI: A total of 261 FM transmitters of All India Radio will be put up by the end of the Twelfth Plan in 2017 all over the country.
These include forty-five transmitters that are being replaced and eight being set up in the border areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
AIR DG F Sheheryar told Radioandmusic.com that the 208 new transmitters include 107 100 Watt Transmitters.

He said that medium wave transmitters were being replaced in some centres because high-rise buildings prevented signals from reaching listeners.
Sheheryar also added that some of the transmitters are from the ongoing schemes of the Eleventh Plan. The total number of replacements of Transmitters is 77, of which the largest number – eight – is in Maharashtra.
A total of 100 Watt FM transmitters are being set up at 100 locations for extending FM Coverage at existing LPT/HPT Doordarshan sites in 17 states and union territories during the Twelfth Plan. These include one in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands which often fails to get either radio or television signals.
In addition to these, a total of six transmitters of 1 kw and 10 kw medium wave, are being replaced by FM transmitters.
