ZURICH: Trying to establish itself as the global annual event for people from the radio and music industry, the International Radio Festival is showcasing the best of radio stations from across the globe playing their sound in a unique concept titled ‘Listen to how the world sounds’.
The jocks from respective stations are broadcasting their shows live from the fest through web radio to listeners across the globe.
Some of the participating radio stations include Red FM India, DRS 3 Zurich, Lush FM Singapore, 100FM Tel Aviv Israel, RTE/2XM Dublin Ireland and Ministry of Sound Radio London UK.

The fest kicked off with the local station DRS 3 with their show ‘Sounds’. The other days of the fest followed with many stations broadcasting different styles of music including dance, electronic, retro, avant-garde beats, hip hop, jazz, funk and many more.
Lending a desi touch to the entire concept was our very own Red FM jock Malishka who presented a two hour morning show today. Comprising of complete bollywood flavour, the tracks featured in the show included ‘Rang de basanti’, ‘Tujhe Dekha toh ye jaana sanam’, ‘Kuch Kuch hota hai’, ‘Dhinka Chika’ and ‘Munni badnam’ amongst others. Her show involved a lot of Malishka style jock talk in Hindi which was also translated into English. The Sound of India featured special sound bytes from bollywood celebs like Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Ranbir Kapoor and Karan Johar.
Speaking to Radioandmusic.com about her show, Malishka said, “My show was about the music I play and the content I churn out. It involved a lot of mixing, putting it all together which was a little unnerving but a great experience.”
Representing each of their cultures through their sounds, the participating radio stations put up a great show and also experienced the cultural exchange by interacting and listening to stations from other nations as well.

DRS 3 Zurich RJ Hanspeter Kunzler: “It’s fantastic because the problem now is that with internet everything is available but you have to look for it. But here you have so many different shows on one platform. It’s a great concept.”
Red FM India RJ Malishka: “This is the most amazing concept. There are wonderful radio people here and the whole idea of having something like this is great because its fun listening to other sounds of the world. I heard 100 FM from Tel Aviv, Ministry of Sound and they are so good that we are also learning from them.”
RTE 2XM Dublin RJ Gabby Sanderson: “It’s so much fun listening to how the rest of the world sounds. Everybody wants to share their knowledge about music and show what their side of the world is listening to which is enriching. I have learnt a lot by interacting with people from different nations.”
DJ London & morning show presenter Normski: “I find it exciting to come here and meet new people and we exchange techniques enjoying the medium while listening to how the world sounds.”
Lush FM Singapore RJ Chris Ho: “I feel really honoured to be invited here. It’s an interesting concept because even though we are in the same world, music speaks a universal language but we speak different languages at the same time. And we are listening to it and understanding what radio in other countries sounds like.”
