MUMBAI: The federal agency of India, National Investigation Agency (NIA) that combats terrorist activities, carried out an investigation on Kochi’s unit of All India Radio (AIR) (Kerala).
The agency confiscated nine tapes from AIR after they received a complaint from a listener. Sources from the NIA confirmed the investigation and said the complaint stated the station had aired information which was anti-state in nature. However, no case has been filed and the station has been given a clean chit.
The federal agency ruled the act as a simple procedure the team carries out very often when given a tip of any anti-state act or petition that is filed by an individual or group.

Sources also confirmed that the raid is the first of its kind in AIR Kochi for a popular current affairs programme. According to Deccan Chronicle the NIA team questioned Aradhana, a member of the panel of causal artistes for AIR. The programme is aired for eight minutes and covers topics of contemporary interest.
The newspaper quoted Aradhana, “My brother was arrested one year ago (in connection with Mavelikara case) and he is on bail now. But, I have no clue why the NIA came for me. I have no association with activities of Maoist outfits or any other organisations.” The investigation took place last month.
NIA was created after the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, to combat anti-state acts.
