NEW DELHI: When the nation in particular, and the world in general, is celebrating 100 years of his return to India, All India Radio is paying its tribute to Barrister Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi in a novel 100-episode series being aired from 9 January on its FM network.
The research based series is produced by veteran broadcaster Madhuker Upadhyay and devoted to recreate the perspective of Gandhi’s return to India from South Africa in 1915.
The series will be broadcast at 8.30 a.m. on FM Rainbow Network and 9.15 a.m. on FM Gold Network.

Each episode has a unique dimension. Fluidity in the narration by Upadhyay helps in visualising the ethos of the period that led Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, the greatest Pravasi Bhartiya, to return to India and become ‘The Mahatma’.
Each narrative will highlight simple facts such as why there were 365 days of quiet and solitude in Gandhi’s life after his return from South Africa; why his eyes which were filled with enthusiasm and zeal had a forlorn look when he did not see his political guru Gopal Krishna Gokhale and the length of his “observe and absorb”.
This has been chronicled in “Khamoshi ki Daastaan” or “Chronicle of the Quiet Days” penned by Upadhyay himself.
Upadhyay already has to his credit many memorable radio features for the BBC.
The Pravasi Divas conceived by the L M Singhvi Committee during the time when A B Vajpayee was the Prime Minister is marked to commemorate this day.
