MUMBAI: All India Radio’s FM stations, the least advertised of all FM players, have been silently but slowly staking their claim in the popularity charts. If the latest RAM ratings for week 26 are to be believed, AIR FM stations, either Gold or Rainbow have made it to the top five in Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore. In Kolkata, the two stations come in at number nine and ten, however.
As with the past few weeks, Mirchi has continued to hold its lead in the metros but has slipped again in Bangalore to Big FM by a slender margin.
Bangalore – Big FM has captured the top slot after a gap of a few weeks, by gaining 0.5 percentage points and hogging a market share of 18.2 per cent, elbowing ahead of Radio Mirchi which had a market share of 17.7 per cent, after having slipped 2.2 percentage points. Fever came in a distant third with a share of 13.3 per cent, despite having gained 0.7 percentage points. AIR’s Rainbow station followed with a share of 12.3 per cent, a gain of 0.3 percentage points over the previous week.

Radio City, SFM and Radio One come in that order next, followed by another AIR FM station, Vividh Bharati Bangalore, which makes it to the eighth slot with a share of 4.9 per cent.
Delhi – Mirchi led the Delhi pack, with a share of 25.6 per cent, despite having lost 0.3 percentage points. AIR’s FM Gold came in second with a share of 16.5 per cent, having gained 0.5 percentage points. Fever came a close third with a share of 16 per cent, having lost 0.2 percentage points. Radio City is a distant fourth with a share of 9.5 per cent, despite having gained 0.6 percentage points.
Kolkata – Mirchi continued its winning streak in Kolkata as well with a share of 19.5 per cent, having lost 0.2 percentage points Big FM followed with a share of 14.6 per cent, having gained 0.7 percentage points over the previous week. Friends FM with a share of 12.7 per cent and Aamar FM with a share of 11.8 per cent came next, and Red FM followed with a share of 8.8 per cent. Fever, Radio One and Meow follow in the pecking order, with the two AIR FM stations making the tail end of the top ten.
Mumbai – In Mumbai, Mirchi has widened the gap between itself and the original Mumbai leader Red FM, with a market share of 17.6 per cent, having gained 0.5 percentage points. Red FM, having lost 0.5 percentage points, ended with a share of 15.4 per cent. Big FM with a share of 13.5 per cent came next, followed by AIR’s FM Gold station, which had a share of 13 per cent, having gained 1.3 percentage points. Radio City, Fever and Radio One followed, with the eighth place taken again by AIR’s FM Rainbow station, with a share of 4.8 per cent.
