MUMBAI: Seeds India, a Delhi based NGO is organising a music concert in Delhi on 5 and 6 December as apart of its new initiative called Adaptation Action Now which is a call to look at the plight of people whose lives are already being devastated by effects of climate change.
The theme of the concert is music from Himalayas and bands like Indian Ocean, Mohit Chauhan, Soulmate, East India Company Soulmate, X-mantra from Nepal are finalised to play. Bands from Bhutan and Afghanistan also are also expected to chip in. DLF Promenade, Vasant Kunj are the respective venues in New Delhi that will host the concert which will be followed by a world leaders meet in Copenhagen for the next round of negotiations on climate change.
Talking about the idea behind the concert Sabah Chauhan, Lead Co-ordinator Adaptaion Action Now says, “Climate change needs to be a public/youth issue. we need people to standup and show in numbers that they care about the climate deal in copenhagen. we wanted to use music as a medium to bring this message across.”

Commenting on the seriousness with which people in India are taking climate change issue, he adds, “Yes, I think they are. But I don’t think they think it is their problem yet. We need to get more concerned about impacts of climate change like water stress, food insecurity, etc.”
The organisation is not depending on corporates for funding the concert. “We are being brave! We are looking for sponsors, but from companies that are committed to cleaner development and innovation not coal companies for sure. But regardless of corporate response we will go ahead. This is important for us.”
The organisers also plan to make the event an annual one. ” We do plan to conduct the event annually.Next year it will be for the coasts and the impacts of climate change on our coastal communities.”
