MUMBAI: Out of the handful of good bollywood songs released lately, one among them is definitely Amit Trivedi’s â€?Iktara’ from the film â€?Wake Up Sid’. But did you know the song was composed almost a year back?!
On being asked how the song came about, Trivedi says, Ayan (Wake Up Sid’s director) used to visit my studio when the film was in the shooting process. He wanted a song that would inspire him to shoot, and that’s when I made him hear Iktara, he liked it and that’s how it became apart of the film,… he adds. Trivedi says the song was more or less rough till then, and was only completed after he started working on it for the film

SEL, the foremost composers of Wake Up Sid were scheduled to work on the films background score before Trivedi came into the picture. Because they (SEL) had other projects to work on, I was roped in to do the background score. I thought for a while before taking up the project since SEL had already finished composing for the film by then,… he says
Being a composer who has earned his name through years of struggle, Trivedi is not the kind who would bicker about sharing credits, but he does say that people are confused and feel his song Iktara is composed by Shankar- Ehsaan-Loy.
Honestly its not fair to them, neither to me. A lot of people are confused and feel that Iktara is composed by SEL. They are getting compliments for the song I composed and there are also many who come to me and say, that they like my song â€?Wake Up Sid’ (laughs)… so its a bit of a confusion, but its just a part and parcel of the business – you can’t do much,… he refrains
Who is Iktara’s male voice?
Those who have watched the film must have realized that the film features two versions of Iktara. While the female version is sung by Kavita Seth (accompanied by Amitabh Bhattacharya on vocals) and is written by Javed Akhtar. The male version (only heard in film) is sung by Tochi Raina – yes, the same singer who was reportedly admitted for depression caused because of a mistaken identity goof-up between him and Toshi Sabri
Initially, the film was to feature just the female version of the song, When I was working on the background score, I experimented a bit and thought we’ll add the male version of the track as well,… he said. Though Tochi Raina’s version of Iktara is not available on cds, Trivedi says, We do have plans to release it digitally…. As luck would have had it, Raina’s version of the song couldn’t be released because the CD production was already over, since his version was a last minute addition.
As far as his choice for using the voice of Kavita Seth for the song goes, he says, I had called her for a demo, and I really liked the texture of her voice, and that worked big time….

Trivedi is presently working on Abhay Deol and Sonam Kapoor starrer Aisha, The music of the film is more on the commercial lines, its something I haven’t done before and its challenging,… admits Trivedi who has composed unconventional scores like that of Dev D and Aamir before.
