MUMBAI: We may have only registered 43 per cent voting, but Mumbai believes that there’s still hope – especially for the city’s youth.
Channel [v] in association with Bigadda.com will present a concert titled [v] Bigadda Concert for Change on 9 May 2009, featuring artistes like Kailash Kher, Raghu Dixit and Bappi Lahiri.
It’s not just about voting, says Bigadda.com COO Shivanandan Pare, “The idea is to help the young generation to be a better
citizen and be eco-freindly. Today’s youth are mature but need some hand holding – they are responsible, well-exposed and
can carry the Indian badge with pride.”

A politically aware musician, Raghu Dixit says, “The 67 per cent people who didn’t vote will regret why they didn’t beacause
the will have to face a dismissal government.” Speaking about the concept, Dixit says, “Nobody would want some leader to come up on stage and read out a speech from the paper -the idea is to get people together. It’s just an humble effort to bring some change.”
It has been observed that songs with a cause have been on the rise. However, Dixit doesn’t believe in writing them. ” I have
always refrained from being an activist musician. We hear and read stories about someone dying, someone killing and someone going hungry, but I don’t necessarily write songs about those issues – I might instead talk about it. I prefer that when someone comes to my concert they just enjoy and have fun rather than reliving the same things,” Dixit explains.
When asked if he thought Bappi Lahiri connects with the young generation, Pare said, “Yes. After all, it’s ‘music’ and the distinctive genre he represents connects to the youth.”
Besides Bappi Lahiri, the stage would also serve as a premiere for Kailash Kher’s upcoming album. Also expect Raghu Dixit to play some new material from his upcoming album.
