MUMBAI: Antipathetic emotions towards musicians from across the border seems to be welling up in Bollywood.
The latest instance is the Hindi film ‘Jugaad’, a satire on the sealing drive in Delhi, which has dropped a promotional video featuring Pakistani singer Adeel from the film. The film’s music was released in Mumbai last week.
The popular Pakistani artiste says he had worked hard on the video and felt “devastated” on being informed that his song and video featured himself was chopped from the promotions, according to a PTI report.
Meanwhile, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has submitted a memorandum to the Aurangabad district collector in interior Maharashtra, seeking a ban on the sale and purchase of cassettes and CDs of Pakistan based artists.
Warning shopkeepers and Mall owners against their sale, the party said strict action will be taken against those indulging in it. The party said it will not allow any Pakistani artist to enter Maharashtra, says a PTI report.
The MNS urged producers and music companies not to assign work to any Pakistan national. MNS chief Raj Thackeray had earlier banned the entry of Pakistanis on Indian television too.
The actions are being perceived as a fallout of Indo-Pak tension in the wake of terror attacks on Mumbai.
In another instance, director of forthcoming release Victory Ajitpal Mangat cancelled the gathering of more than 60 international cricketers including those from Pakistan, at the DY Patil stadium in Nerul near Mumbai for the music launch of the film. However, Mangat did not attribute the cancellation to the Pakistani cricketers, but said that a celebration could not be in order in the aftermath of the terror attacks in Mumbai, according to media reports.
Meanwhile, singer Adeel told PTI from Lahore, “I am feeling hurt and depressed. I don’t know why they did this to me. Mumbai is like a second home to me and I have receive much love and affection from the people of the city.”
Adeel’s song ‘Kise Awaaz Dun’ in ‘Jugaad’ was supposed to be promotional song for the film and the popular Pakistani singer had even shot a video for it. However, producer Sanddeep Kapur scrapped the song from promotions.
Adeel has also been left out from the music release of the film in Mumbai last week.
“We artistes have nothing to do with it. We, like the most of Indians are a victim of terror attacks too and the public of both sides understand this,” Adeel said.
The film starring Manoj Bajpai and Hrishita Bhatt is scheduled for release in February.
