MUMBAI: Warner Music Group has asked Google-owned Youtube to remove all its content after the talks between the music content major and the video-sharing site collapsed over revenue sharing.
The order may affect hundreds of thousands of video clips, as it covers tracks by artists signed to Warner Music like Madonna, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Kid Rock, as well as songs published by its Warner/Chappel unit, which includes many artists not signed to the label.
The original deal which was signed in 2006, allowed Warner’s content to be used legally on YouTube in return for advertising revenue. However, now Warner reportedly is eyeing a bigger revenue.
Following the order from Warner, YouTube warned users on its website saying they may notice videos that contain music owned by Warner Music Group being blocked from the site.
YouTube also has deals with Universal Music, Sony and EMI Music.
