MUMBAI: Radio City’s mystery RJ Love Guru will make his Bollywood debut with a tailor made role in Studio 18’s Dil Kabaddi that releases on Friday.
The agony uncle of Indian radio, who just clocked five non-stop years on air, will play narrator or ‘sutradhar’ to beleaguered protagonists Rahul Bose, Irfan Khan, Konkona Sen, Soha Ali Khan and Rahul Khanna, in the film. He helps the two modern day urban couples – Samit (Irfan) and Mita (Soha), Rishi (Rahul Bose) and Simi (Konkona) handle complex, sensitive matters of the heart to solve the never ending quests which their hearts put them through.
Radio City, which has ensured that Love Guru was incorported into the film right from the scripting stage, is the exclusive radio partner for Dil Kabaddi.
As part of the partnership that will extend across Mumbai, Delhi, Lucknow, Jaipur, Ahmedabad and Pune, a host of â€?Whatte Fun’ contests will be launched across shows giving listeners the opportunity to win â€?Dil Kabaddi’ movie tickets and autographed merchandise. Radio City will also bring listeners snippets of all the behind-the-scenes action with an all-star access with the entire cast and crew of the movie.
Says Radio City Executive Vice President and National Head – Programming and Marketing Rana Barua, “As a national FM brand with an unwavering focus on the SEC AB listener, we ensure that each of our partnerships delivers value to our listeners. Our association with Studio 18 offers a very compelling proposition in terms of brand-fit – with the theme of the movie and Radio City’s Love Guru and this element has been beautifully married into the script of the movie. While this will be particularly exciting for Love Guru fans, we are certain that coupled with the power of radio, the slice-of-life â€?Dil Kabaddi’ will strike a chord with urban audiences across the board….
Commenting on his Bollywood debut, the RJ who has effectively kept his real identity under wraps thus far, says, Thanks to Radio City, Love Guru takes a leap from real life to reel life – from radio to the silver screen still being the unseen, unknown friend. In â€?Dil Kabaddi’, I am the confidante who is privy to the secrets of everyone’s lives, secrets which they confide in me with. I needle them on their wayward ways to put their lives back on track. It was a great experience voicing for the movie which is an out-an-out witty flick, which examines human relationships falling to temptations to realize that nothing is better than sticking on with â€?the love of your life’ rather than play â€?kabaddi’ with the heart….
Radio stations in the country now seem keen on extending their on air presences to other media. Earlier this year, Red FM RJs Malishka and Mantra have made their television debuts, hosting shows on UTV’s Bindass, the youth channel.
